Repairs and MAINTENANCE

Running Tracks

  • Crack and Seam Repair: Small cracks or separations in the surface can allow water to penetrate, leading to more extensive damage. These are typically cleaned, primed, and filled with a specialized sealant compatible with the track's material.
  • Patching: Localized areas of significant wear, such as at starting blocks or in high-traffic zones, can be cut out and replaced with a new patch of the same material.

  • Resurfacing: Giving the Track a New Life: When the top layer of the track becomes worn, faded, and loses its grip, a resurfacing is required. There are two primary methods:
  • Respray Coat: A new layer of colored, textured polyurethane is sprayed onto the existing surface. This restores the track's performance and appearance and is the more common and cost-effective option for tracks that are structurally sound.
  • Structural Over-Pour: A thicker, poured layer of polyurethane is applied over the existing track. This is a more substantial and durable solution, often used when the track has more significant surface damage.

  • Full Replacement: In cases of severe, widespread damage, or when the underlying asphalt base has failed, a full replacement of the track system may be the only option.

Athletic Courts

  • Crack Filling: Temperature fluctuations can cause the underlying asphalt or concrete to crack, which will then reflect through the acrylic surface. These cracks must be cleaned and filled with specialized acrylic crack fillers to prevent water infiltration and further damage.

  • Birdbath Leveling: Puddles, or "birdbaths," that remain after rain indicate low spots in the court. These can be leveled with patching compounds.

  • Resurfacing: Every 4 to 8 years, depending on use, hard courts require resurfacing. This involves cleaning the court, repairing cracks and low spots, and applying new layers of acrylic resurfacer and color coatings, followed by fresh line painting.
